Handicap Tournament Rules

  1. The Los Angeles Silver Screen Invitational, hereafter referred to as LASSI, is sponsored by the Los Angeles Silver Screen Invitational Association. The LASSI is open to participants by invitation only. The LASSI is a mixed handicap competition sanctioned by USBC, and will adhere to USBC Rules and Regulations. Any issues not covered by these or USBC Rules will be resolved by a Tournament Director. The LASSI is a member of IGBO.
  2. All participants are required to be at least 21 years of age. This event is specifically for adults and we strongly advise against bringing children to the event. Only registered bowlers, tournament officials and bowling center staff are allowed in the bowling area during competition. Guests are requested to sit in the gallery behind the bowling area.
  3. All participants are expected to conduct themselves in a manner that is courteous and respectful to others at all times. Bowlers exhibiting any behavior that is disrespectful to anyone in the bowling house (e.g. verbal abuse, physical abuse, inappropriate language) will be disqualified from the competition and removed from the premises. Other possible consequences can be, but not limited to, reporting any incidents to IGBO and/or USBC.
  4. All participants are required to hold a current 2025/2026 USBC membership. LASSI maintains a Moral Support Tournament Certification for non-members of USBC (Rule 301a). Participants who are not members of USBC may qualify for entry by paying a one-time tournament participation fee of $5.00 (Rule 300c) prior to the start of the tournament. These participants are subject to USBC rules and jurisdiction, but are not eligible for USBC awards.
  5. All participants are required to be a member of IGBO. Those who don't bowl on an IGBO League may purchase an IGBO Associate Membership for $25.00. The IGBO Associate Membership allows them to bowl in any IGBO Tournament for one year after purchase of the membership.
  6. All bowling is at Cal Bowl in Lakewood, California.
  7. The Handicap Tournament events shall be Team, Singles, and Doubles. Each participant shall bowl three games per event and must enter all three events. Teams shall consist of four members. Doubles partners must come from the same team. Each participant may bowl only once in each event.
  8. Each participant in the tournament must have an established average acceptable to USBC. In the event the participant is not a member of USBC, any league average(s) submitted must be from an IGBO league whose rules are USBC compliant per the discretion of a tournament director. Please submit the highest of A or B. If A or B don't apply, please submit C. If C doesn't apply, please submit D. If you don't have an average from A, B, C, or D, please select E and include any information helpful toward establishing an entering average for you in the Notes section. A score equivalent to the highest entering average will only be used in the event no averages are available and there is no reasonable method to determine a fair entering average for the bowler. The final decision regarding the determination of any bowler's entering average is at the sole discretion of a Tournament Director.
  • A - 2024/2025 League Composite Average1
  • B - Current IGBO tournament average (TAD)2
  • C - 2023/2024 League Composite Average1,3
  • D - Highest current league average as of October 17, 20251,3
  • E - None, or an average equivalent to 225
1 Minimum of 21 games is required.
2 Minimum of 18 games is required during the one year period from November 14, 2024 to November 13, 2025.
3 Includes Standard, Sport and Challenge Averages. Sport and Challenge Averages converted to Standard using the USBC Conversion Chart If a Sports and/or Challenge Average exists, Final Entering Average will calculated as a weighted average of all available USBC averages.

  1. Bowlers are required to adjust their entering average if, during the 12-month period immediately preceding LASSI, the cumulative average for all, but not less than, 21 tournament games in which the bowler has participated, exceeds the average used for entry by ten (10) or more pins. It is the bowler’s responsibility to submit this adjustment, in writing, before the end of the first frame of tournament play. Failure to accurately report these scores shall be cause for disqualification and forfeiture of entry fees and prize winnings if discovered; regardless of whether the discovery is before, during or after tournament play.
  2. It shall be the responsibility of each bowler to verify their average, whether submitted by the bowler, team captain or others. Entering averages must be verified by either:
  • USBC Averages listed on USBC bowl.com
  • IGBO tournament average listed on TAD
  • League averages on League Secretary
  • Email PDF of League Standing Sheet(s) including league secretary's name and phone number.
  1. Failure to provide proper documentation or providing the wrong average shall disqualify tournament scores if the submitted average is lower than the actual average. In this instance, the bowler will forfeit their entry fee and any other prizes and awards, and will also be required to return all winnings from optional events. All prize winnings will be awarded on the submitted average if it is higher than the actual average. Entries received whose average cannot be verified will be considered incomplete and not considered for tournament entry until verified.
  2. USBC Rule (319c) permits a Tournament Director to assign a higher average prior to participation in each event. If the bowler is unwilling to accept the higher average, they are entitled to a full refund of their event entry.
  3. Bowler's handicap shall be 90% of the difference between 225 and the bowler's average. Negative handicaps will not apply.
  4. It is solely the bowler's responsibility to be present at the assigned lanes at the time of bowling. Late bowlers will start bowling in the frame they are ready, with prior frames scored as a zero.
  5. Complete doubles and team entrants must be present for bowling each event. If a team member is not present or injured, the pair or team may use an authorized substitute, if available, and approved by a Tournament Director. If the team member is injured and no substitute is available, a score equal ten pins less than the injured bowler's entering average may be used for Doubles and Team Events only, with approval of a Tournament Director. Injured bowlers are not allowed to re-enter the tournament.
  6. All bowlers must initial the scores on the recap sheet after each event. All scores may be verified against bowling center computers.
  7. All claims of errors or disputes must be made in writing to a Tournament Director no more than one (1) hour after completion of scheduled event.
  8. All entries must be completed online and be received no later than November 1, 2025, or when the maximum number of entries, 160 bowlers (40 teams) is reached. All entries are considered incomplete until full payment is received for the entire team and may be rejected to allow other paid teams to participate.
  9. The entry fee shall be $125.00 as detailed below. In addition, bowlers not affiliated with IGBO, as defined in Rule 5, will be required to pay a $25.00 IGBO Associate Member fee. All entries received after October 20, 2025 shall be charged a late processing fee of $20.00. Once an entry has been accepted, no refunds will be issued except as specified in Rule 12.

    • Prize Fund $40.00 (may be supplemented by tournament fund raising)
  10. All cash awards for the Handicap Tournament shall be based on the total pins plus assigned handicap for each event. The award ratio for Team, Singles and Doubles Events shall be at least 1:10.
  11. Prizes will be distributed via electronic check 30 days after the competition of the tournament barring any protest. A tie in any position will result in the sum of the prizes being aggregated for the tied positions and divided equally by the number of ties for that placing. It is solely the responsibility of the bowler to provide their proper email address when registering or at check-in such that any prizes can be delivered to them via email.
  12. The prize distribution for each of the events shall be equal to at least the following amounts based on the prize fund allotment multiplied by the number of entrants

    • Team Event 50%
    • Singles Event 20%
    • Doubles Event 30%
  13. Optional Events may be operated by entities other than the LASSI Tournament Committee. You are expected to follow all rules associated with each event. Any disqualification from the tournament may result in disqualification from any and all optional events as well. All optional events are operated on a best effort basis.
